We were savvy consumers since we had built a custom home previously but this experience differed in that it was a second home and we were managing decisions from afar. Communication: We received regular updates from the start, which increased in frequency during the 16 month construction period and became almost daily towards the final few months. Emails, phone calls, pictures, even videos were sent to demonstrate progress. Whenever we had a question the email replies were almost immediate, and consistently by the next day. We have running documentation of each decision and outcome. Despite being miles away, we felt at ease that we were on top of the process.

Knowledgeable team: With Aidan Weir in charge and Joel Mulder as site manager, we couldn’t have asked for a more experienced, qualified team. When we raised concerns about wind, water and weather resistance, the reply was “We are going to build you a submarine”. The team’s experience building on the beach meant that important selections were made to assure durability and storm resistance.

Attention to details: Things we would not have thought of to match up, line up or inspect were finished to perfection. Not a back of a door, under a counter, hinge of a shutter, or alignment of a panel was acceptable unless it was exact. Even after the CO, the team was available to assure that all aspects of the home were to our satisfaction.

Value: Calusa sought out value in bids to subs and selection of building materials. They provided documentation on each payment.. The builder’s fee was fair and reasonable and he kept his word on all aspects of the contract.
